We’re a month into the year and you’re probably knee deep into your resolution, if you made one. How’s that going? Are you feeling strong? Are you feeling burnt out? Are you saying, ‘Welllll, I don’t HAVE to achieve that goal yet’…there’s a reason resolutions don’t stick and why 90% of people are done with them by February.
Is there anything wrong with making resolutions…absolutely not…but we need to set better ones in order to achieve them.
What do I mean by ‘better’ ones? I mean, resolutions we have control over. A lot of people make resolutions to lose weight, or fit into a certain pant size, or get down to a certain body fat percentage, and while there’s nothing inherently wrong with these goals, they are VERY hard to control. Our weight naturally fluctuates (and is supposed to), we may not be able to fit into a certain size because of our bone structure and natural build, body fat percentages are highly determined by genetics and can be very out of our control.
So what resolutions do we make that we can actually control?!
– Doing your first unassisted push-up or pullups
– Deadlifting your weight
– Running a half marathon
– Running a mile without stopping
– Consistently move with intention 4 days a week
– Be more active with your kids and able to chase them without running out of breath
These are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.
In other words…they’re SMART. See what I did there 😏.
